Following my article/passion piece on the Cuban blogger revolution, I just coulden’t resist posting this. No, this isnt turning into a blog on Cuban afffairs, I just personally find it so damn interesting!
This is a series of posts from the Spanish language Cuban blog “LA CHIRINGA DE CUBA” (The Small Piece of Cuba) outlining the current situation of the Cuban government apparently setting up a Facebook imitation social networking site. I have translated the pages into English for our readers. This is a pretty weird story and it is still developing as we speak. This is super controversial because it seems to be breaking various copyrights held by Facebook. It has even used the name Facebook in the site, even though its a clone. It’s functionality is unknown to me at this time but I doubt its up to par with the real Facebook. I will keep updating this post as more news comes in on this developing story. As of right now the website is currently down, possibly due to a traffic overload. This is sure to be very interesting, stay tuned.
You can only access the website via Cuba’s internal network. It is not available on the world wide web. Also, Red Social simply means Social Network as the website name is written in Spanish.
Check out this other blog post on the situation as well
Part 1:
The news has left me shaken. I really do not know the basis of this network, or who is behind it (although apparently it’s an idea patented by the Ministry of Education), but what is clear to me that finally someone has been lighting the bulb and wanted to overlook the social networking revolution by almost a perfect copy of FACEBOOK , only this is very Cuban and can access it through a national network, ie, via Intranet.
If you eventually find it feasible or not remains to be seen. In the meantime, I invite you to create your personal account in this new space that will surely make the difference between the few and poor choices that exist today in the national grid.
Here I leave the link: http://facebook.ismm.edu.cu
Part 2:
Apparently the flood of visitors who received the well-known and greatly affected Cuban Facebook access thereto, and a few hours after the news spread through the network was all a failure to enter this site both inside and outside the island. Today, however, a new way to access this Cuban social network is now available for users, so for those who criticized the lack of originality of their creators have maintained their dominance in the name of the popular social network , and and those who were concerned about the reaction of Mark Zuckerberg , Facebook and the Cuban has a new link: http://neko.uclv.edu.cu/index.php/
I finally made my own.
Part 3:
! I have no more doubts! The credibility of the Cuban Facebook is in doubt, because apparently the infrastructure to maintain such a service is repeatedly confronted with serious conflicts.
If it is true that for a social network of this type requires a technology far more advanced than an ordinary server, I think that the thousands of internal and external views should be creándole serious headaches for those responsible for this project. Why do I say this? The image below shows would be a wise answer.
What will happen now? Will he return to change the URL shunning of such demand? The truth is that for now, the cuban facebook is down again.
